What Type Of Lawyer

There are many jokes out there that seem to imply that there are too many lawyers in the world. And while there may be people who are trying cases on everything from how to choose private nursing care to hair removal in Tampa Bay. The truth is that this is a profession that is used throughout many other industries. We have a lot of lawyers because we need them. If you're thinking of going to school to become a lawyer than you're going to want to have an idea of what type you would like to be. Here are some things to think about to help you make that decision.

The first thing that you should examine is why you want to be a lawyer. If you're interested in having a stable job with a good salary than you might want to look at working in corporate law where you can have a list of clients, from oil companies to factories that make tamper evident bands who will have you on retainer for any number of jobs they need done. If, on the other hand, you're looking to make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate than you might want to look into working in legal aid or the public defense office.

There are two main types of lawyers: solicitors and barristers. Generally, a barrister is the person who will go to court and try a case on anything from a murder to a lawsuit. A solicitor was originally the person who did all of the preliminary research on the case and worked within the office on legal advice and practice. Today, you will find that the majority of those lawyers who are helping people build a business or those that are working on contracts are not going to see a lot of time in the courtroom. There are more jobs out there for solicitors than barristers.

Many lawyers work independently within their own office for individuals. These are the people that you might go to if you were looking for a divorce or if you wanted to file a claim against someone you were in an accident with. If you're looking to represent people than you might want to look into specializing in one of these areas instead of working for corporations on purchasing contracts.

Not only will choosing what type of lawyer you would like to be help you focus on the end goal while you're at school, but it could also help you choose the right law program. There are many law schools all over the country and some are better equipped to teach you about family law while others will train you for working in sales or corporate law.
